Armada Complete Roster on Nondescript Day
The Edwardsville Armada became the first team to complete their thirty-five man roster and Miguel Tejada’s contract with the Texas Outlaws were the headlines of a relatively quiet signing day in the United Rotisserie League.
For the last guy signed, the Armada made a nice catch in All-Star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero. Originally reported to be signing with the Conway Capitols, a flaw in the paperwork sent Guerrero to Edwardsville.
“We’re very happy to have Vlad in the fold,” said owner David Reed. “And just because our roster is complete doesn’t mean we are taking off the rest of the off-season. With trade possibilities possibly creating roster slots, we plan to continue to monitor the market.”
Tejada signed a $190, five-year contract with the Outlaws, the highest monitary outlay of the day.
Owner Robert Arnwine released a statement, saying in part, “We are glad to have Miguel on the team. Right now, we seem to have a glut of player that can play shortstop, so we may be discussing moving a player or two in trade talks. But it’s a very good problem to have.”
Almost 82% of URL rosters have been filled, leaving most owners to selectively target their remaining signings. There’s a strong likelihood that trade talks will continue to swirl this week.
