Carpenter, Berkman Swapped

The Arkansas Cardinals announced today that they had agreed on a deal to send outfielder Lance Berkman to the Conway Capitols for starter Chris Carpenter.  Financial terms were not announced at this time.

“This is a great move for the Capitols,” said Conway owner Mark Scott.  “Carpenter is a top pitcher, no doubt, but it’s pitching we have, and hitting we lack.  Oh, people will come now, folks.  People will most definitely come.”

Cardinal GM Billy Beane reiterated the fact that the Cardinals had been looking for another ace to go with current pitching headliner Roy Halladay.

“Getting Carpenter is a move we felt we really needed to make to strengthen this team,” said Beane.  “Giving up on Lance was extremely hard, but in the end it was something that had to be done.”
